Kalo Horafi is located approximately 37km east of Rethymno and 43km west of Heraklion. “Kalo Horafi” is the name of the wider area, characterized by a wild Cretan landscape with high mountains and green gorges.

A short dirt track (200m), starting at the point on the highway where Chnaris tavern is located, leads to a nice small beach, that looks west. The beach is pebbly and is never busy. Apart from the tavern, there is nothing else in the area. Thus, make sure that you have all essentials with you.

The beach is also known as Vossakos, since from this point starts the gorge of Vossakos which leads to the homonymous monastery, after three hours walking. The monastery is dedicated to St. George and was built in 1195. Until a few years earlier, the monastery was ruined, but restoration works have been done recently.
